Our talented contributors are an essential part of what makes The SOMM Journal so special. The following of are some of our regular photographers. Look for profiles of other contributors in each issue of the magazine.

Jeremy Ball is a self-taught photographer. He's been shooting and editing for over a decade. Inspired by his past career in the restaurant industry, he chose to take a leap of faith and created Bottle Branding in 2009 - a media business focused solely on food, wine and spirits.





Mona Shields Payne has had a camera in her hands since she can remember. Since 2006 she has worked as a professional freelance photographer for the Greenspun Media Group's news publications, as well as public-relations firms, corporate clients and families in the Las Vegas Metropolitan area. Many of her photographs have won awards through the Nevada Press Association. She holds a BA in journalism from the University of Oklahoma and an AAS in Court Reporting from the Stenotype Institute of Jacksonville.


Alexander Rubin is an award-winning photographer specializing in commercial, wine industry and advertising photography. Based in Napa, California, his clients include Oprah, Fortune 500 companies and renowned wineries. Alex travels regularly for projects all over wine country, the West Coast and to destinations worldwide.





Contributing photographer Stephanie Secrest was born in Denver, Colorado, into a family of journalists and writers in which creativity was particularly valued.  She acquired her first camera at the age of seven and her journey began. She went on to receive her BA from the University of Northern Colorado, and her MA in photojournalism from the journalistically prestigious Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.  She has been entrenched in the Bay Area journalism scene for 19 years and lives happily in her teeny cottage near the water.


Kirk Weddle photographs enticing images for advertising, editorial and corporate clients all over the world from his base in Austin, Texas. "Bhe best part of my job is the people I meet and the places I go," he says.





Doug Young was the former Photography Director ofVOX Hamptons, an acclaimed regional lifestyle magazine based in East Hampton, NY.  Three years of photographing and art directing many of the features for VOX produced a portfolio that showcased his talent and versatility, as well as the ability to express a point of view. A graduate of F.I.T. in NYC, Doug has since been freelancing for many publications and focusing his vision on food and lifestyle photography.
