Fess Parker Winery Adds Napa Cabernet Brand

The latest addition to the expanding holdings of the Los Olivos-based Fess Parker Winery is a stand-alone label of four 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons branded Addendum. The portfolio includes single-vineyard wines sourced from an historic Rutherford vineyard, the Stagecoach vineyard in Atlas Peak, and a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that’s a blend of the two sites.
Siblings and second-generation vintners Ashley and Eli Parker along with winery President Tim Snider looked to Napa Valley to “add-on” a Bordeaux variety to their portfolio of Rhône and Burgundian wines. “Usually, it’s the other way around,” said Snider. “Producers from Napa Valley are sourcing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Santa Barbara.”
With 2014 as their inaugural vintage, Fess Parker winemaker Blair Fox adapted the amount of new oak for each wine using 100 percent new French oak for the Addendum Skellenger Lane sourced from Rutherford and just 40 percent for a focused and blue-fruit-inspired Stagecoach. For a Cabernet-dominate Stagecoach vineyard blend, Fox included 44 percent Syrah resulting in a wine that is bright and focused with a lifted mid palate. Addendum Napa Valley is a two to one blend of the Rutherford vineyard wine and Stagecoach that shows the best of both sites with ripe, generous tannins and savory fruit.
The Addendum portfolio is housed in
a dedicated tasting salon off the recently renovated barrel room at the Fess Parker winery, established in Santa Ynez Valley in 1989 by television actor Fess Parker. Parker’s portrayal of pioneering frontiersmen Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett is fondly remembered by a generation of wine enthusiasts who will undoubtedly be drawn to Addendum Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons which retail between $80 and $95.
