The source of grapes is the first building block in winemaking. To obtain them from an exceptional source, a place that is rare, unusual, prized, and of supreme quality is a holy grail to the winemaker, the starting point on a mission toward excellence. To find that “unicorn” vineyard and fulfill its promise of extraordinary wine is a measure of prowess; it requires not only knowledge and skill, but often restraint, self-control, blind faith, and, most of all, patience.
