What is The SOMM Journal?
The SOMM Journal is a newly branded relaunch of Sommelier Journal, a professional publication for sommeliers founded by David Vogels which ceased publication in October of 2013. Under the guidance and ownership of Publisher and Editorial Director Meridith May, The SOMM Journal is now a bi-monthly publication dedicated to the education, promotion and celebration of the sommelier community.
The SOMM Journal’s new editorial board is comprised of internationally-renowned wine writers, sommeliers and authorities, including Anthony Dias Blue as Editor-in-Chief, David Gadd as Executive Editor and a team of top wine and hospitality industry writers. The publication has aligned with top wine associations, institutions and educators throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Who writes for The SOMM Journal?
We have an international stable of expert wine writers, many of whom were contributors to Sommelier Journal in its previous incarnation and many of whom have come onboard since the launch of The SOMM Journal in 2014. These include such names as Steven Spurrier, Karen MacNeil, David Furer, Jamie Goode, Fred Dame MS, Catherine Fallis MS, and many other well-known authorities.
Do you accept freelance pitches?
We are not accepting freelance pitches at this time. However, if you are an experienced wine writer and have an interest in being assigned stories, you may send an email query and published writing samples to Meridith May at email@example.com and you may be considered for upcoming assignments in your area of expertise or geographic locale.
How can I have my wine reviewed or otherwise featured in The SOMM Journal?
We are not currently soliciting samples for The SOMM Journal. Samples will be requested on a story-by-story basis, depending on our editorial needs. However, you may send samples at any time to Anthony Dias Blue for possible review in his review column in our sister publication, THE TASTING PANEL. Please see THE TASTING PANEL website’s Sample Submission Guidelines.
If you are interested in having your wine or related product covered in a custom feature story, contact our VP of Marketing and Advertising, Bill Brandel (bill@sommjournal).
Do you host visiting winemakers?
We do often meet with winemakers visiting the Los Angeles area and taste with them in the tasting room in our offices in Encino. Please contact Meridith May (firstname.lastname@example.org) to make arrangements.
