The events, hosted virtually by winemakers from around the world, will broadcast live and be available on demand. A curated collection of some of the wines for each panel will be available for purchase in advance of each event.

The launch of the highly anticipated New Sotheby’s Wine Encyclopedia by National Geographic Books was the catalyst for the innovative approach and synergies among industry leaders in their categories. Enthusiasts can register for the sessions and purchase wines at geodigestclub.com.

The New Sotheby’s Wine Encyclopedia will be available October 27, 2020.

For the first time since 2011, National Geographic Books has fully updated The New Sotheby’s Wine Encyclopedia, the comprehensive guide for enophiles now in its sixth edition. This essential reference— long used as the go-to text for the prestigious Master Sommelier examination—is the most comprehensive guide to the world of wine, featuring authoritative information on related history, culture, geography, and more.

“The opportunity to collaborate with The SOMM Journal and its strategic partners provides us the ability to reach an even wider and diverse audience. We look forward to sharing The New Sotheby’s Wine Encyclopedia through virtual wine tastings in which wine lovers from around the country can participate,” said publisher Lisa Thomas.

The monthly series will begin September 24 with “Unique Regions of the World,” followed by “Domestic Bliss: California, Oregon, and Washington” on October 22; “Champagne or Bordeaux: Choose Your Passion” on November 1; “The Southern Hemisphere: From Down Under to the Top of the Andes” in December; “An Exploration of Renowned Single Vineyards” in January 2021; “Technique or Terroir: Is It Production or Nature That Make These Wines Great?” in February 2021; “Italy: North to South” in March 2021; “Luxury from Remarkable Sites” in April 2021; and “A World of Bordeaux Blends” in May 2021. The virtual tastings will be held at 9 a.m. PST on their respective dates and will be available on demand at no cost.
